By Kris Nwosu | My Perspective
The central question
Generosity is admirable, but donations alone do not guarantee development. A building can be commissioned with fanfare and then fall into disrepair because no one budgeted for maintenance. A fundraising appeal can exceed its target and still leave donors uncertain about results.
Why it matters
In community work I have learned to distinguish the excitement of mobilizing resources from the discipline of using them well. Every project needs a defined problem, a credible budget, an accountable team, procurement safeguards and regular reports. Donor recognition may encourage participation, but it must never overshadow the purpose of the gift.
My Perspective
Before we solicit another contribution, we should be able to answer: What will change? Who benefits? Who will maintain the result? How will we report progress? Giving becomes development when compassion is joined to stewardship.
